Soumendu Roy

Soumendu Roy ( Bengali: সৌমেন্দু রায়, Saumendu ray) is an Indian cinematographer.

Life

Roy started in the mid 1950s as an assistant cameraman Subrata Mitra of. Since the recordings for Satyajit Ray's Apu trilogy, he learned his craft at Mitra in practice without ever having to attend a film school. From 1959 he worked as an independent cameraman. He turned 1961 Satyajit Ray's documentary on Tagore, and was thereafter regularly worked until 1984 as the main cameraman for Ray. His ideas for the exposure he worked mostly made together with Ray and Bansi Chandragupta the Designer. In the early 1990s he worked for Tapan Sinha's Ek Doctor Ki toll Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Charachar.

He has received four National Film Awards, for Satyajit Ray movies Ashani Sanket, Sonar Kella and Shatranj Ke Khilari in the Best Cinematography ( color film ) and Raja Sens documentary on Tagore singer Suchitra Mitra in the section Documentary / Best Cinematography.
