South Australian Museum

The South Australian Museum is a natural history museum in Adelaide.

The museum was founded in 1847. It is located in the cultural heart of Adelaide, North Terrace. It received its present name, on the recommendation of the former director Wilhelm Haacke officially in 1939.

Among the fossil collections of the Precambrian Ediacaran fauna stand out, including the oldest known chordate - fossil. There is also ethnographic and Egyptology collections, zoological collections ( Biodiversity Gallery), a collection of minerals, an exhibition on the polar explorer Douglas Mawson and there is a library.
