History of the site

The District South Bay is located as well as the neighboring districts of Chinatown and Leather District on reclaimed by Landaufschüttung land. Originally, the area belonged partly to Bay Village and in 1833 filled by the South Cove Corporation, who built there for the Boston and Worcester Railroad intermodal Eisenbahn-/Schiffsterminal. This included the development of residential and commercial areas and the construction of at that time probably the largest hotels in the United States. For most of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century were located in South Bay mainly Bahnbetriebswerke for out of the south and west coming trains.

The railway companies withdrew from the leather and clothing industry in the district, who built, among other things, the building in neighboring Leather District. At the same time the railroad served as a route for immigrants, which until the early 19th century, particularly for Asians, including many Chinese, true.

In the 1950s, a large proportion of railway lines were laid to build the John F. Fitzgerald Expressway. Thanks to the Big Dig, the area was changed again, and sat new plots free.
