South Caicos
South Caicos is the most south-eastern island in the Caicos Islands and is part of the British overseas territory of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The mostly flat island with an area of about 24 km ² and the shape of a pipe is situated 10 kilometers south of East Caicos; There are still some uninhabited islands of sand between two islands. The southwestern tip upstream is the narrow Long Cay.
On the south coast of South Caicos is also the capital of Cockburn Harbour. There and in the few other settlements on the island (Out North and Highlands ) lived according to the census of 2001, about 1,060 people.
South Caicos has a fixed natural harbor, as well as a 2,000 -meter paved runway and landing strip for small aircraft.
The marine area around the island is a popular destination for deep-sea anglers and scuba divers.
