Chungcheongnam -do ( South Chungcheong ) is a province in the west of South Korea. It is located on the Yellow Sea, bordered to the north by Gyeonggi -do, on the east by Chungcheongbuk -do and on the south by Jeollabuk -do. The city, located to the east Daejeon is the seat of the provincial government, but is since 1989 a separate political entity. By 1895 Chungcheonbuk -do -nam -do and were united in the Chungcheong Province.

The coast is around 3,200 kilometers long, and shall include about 250 scattered islands. The most important city of the province next to Daejeon is Cheonan. Other cities are Asan Boryeong, Gongju, Nonsan, Seosan and Gyeryong.

About one- third of the area of Chungcheongnam -do is farmed. In addition to agriculture is also fishing of great importance. About 220 km ² beach are exposed and become the natural production of salt by evaporation used. Coal is mined, but also gold mines and silver mines are found in Chungcheongnam -do.

With 845 meters of the location in the national park Gyeryong -san is the only significant elevation. The mountain is known for its special rock formations. Also, there are some ancient temples in this national park. 1978 was opened on the Taean Haean National Park Taean Peninsula, where are some of the best beaches.

Sejong City

President Roh Moo -hyun wanted to move the seat of government of Seoul in the Sejong City plan City, which is being built in Chungcheongnam -do. After he had failed in his plans of a complete transfer of the capital to the Constitutional Court, he was planning to relocate just some ministries and government organizations. These plans were not realized, however, during the expansion of Sejong City is a center for science, education and the economy continues forward.
