The South West Region is a region of the Australian state of Western Australia (Western Australia).

Overview

The South West Region is located in the southwestern corner of the state of Western Australia. It borders the Indian Ocean and the Southern Ocean and covers an area of 23 970 square kilometers.

The region has a diverse landscape, with extensive coastline, forests, vineyards and country towns. 2011 notwithstanding, the population in this region to 166,000 inhabitants ( 2004: 123,000, 2006: 142 999 ).

The South West region has extensive mineral deposits (aluminum and mineral sands ). The economy is also based on extensive agriculture, garden cultivation, timber and forest products, retail and tourism. The Port of Bunbury is a major export connection for the region. An expansion of the port facilities is planned.
