Southern hip hop

Down South, Southern Rap and Dirty South is a subgenre of hip- hop and at the same time a geographical term for hip-hop from the southern United States. The term is analogous to West Coast rap or East Coast Rap, Down South as well as the music of the two coasts has its own stylistic features. The term " Dirty South " goes back to an eponymous song of the group Goodie Mob of her debut album, Soul Food back.

Description

Typical of the Hip Hop from the South are synth -heavy productions, but also soul and funk influences. It generally differs greatly from Sampling influenced sound of the east coast, but has parallels to the G-Funk West Coast, where he is also closer of the content.

The Down South is characterized by innovations from repeatedly that exceed the boundaries of the genre Hip- Hop and distinct genres produce: So the Rapformation created 2 Live Crew in the late 1980s, the Miami bass; Early 1990s of Crunk but was only developed the early 2000s by the U.S. rapper Lil Jon became popular and the mid-1990s by DJ Screw came the technique of chopping & screwing on.

The excessive Zurschaustellen of their own wealth by wearing oversized jewelry - bling bling - also has its origins in the rap scene of Down South. As the original progenitor of this outfits applies the former residents of Memphis soul musicians Isaac Hayes.

Again and again, there are bands that are trying to develop the Dirty South and to mix it with other music genres. A good example of this is the band Rehab.

The largest metropolitan areas in the southern states of rape are New Orleans, Atlanta, Memphis, Houston and Miami.
