Southern Lord Records
Southern Lord is an American record label.
History
Southern Lord was founded in April 1998 by Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley. It is on Doom Metal (eg, Church of Misery and Electric Wizard ), Sludge (eg Weedeater or Black Cobra ) Drone Doom (eg Sunn O))) or Earth) and experimental music specialized. Lately there has also published several bands from the black metal environment such as Wolves in the Throne Room, Xasthur or Craft.
Anderson and O'Malley started the label to release the music of their own bands Thorr 's Hammer and Burning Witch. For the first release Anderson got money from Guy Pinhas borrowed. Anderson worked before that at Caroline Distribution, but says himself, to have had no idea of performing a company.
Special
The label is well known for his releases on vinyl. Anderson was inspired by labels like Sub Pop or Touch and Go Records to record making. This small independent companies wanted to wake up with a mini - pads and rich design collector interest and attract attention. The artistic design of the LP and CD Cover at Southern Lord is often praised.
