Sovetsk, Tula Oblast
Sowetsk (Russian Советск ) is a small town in Tula Oblast (Russia) with 7536 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city lies about 40 km south of Tula Oblasthauptstadt on the left bank of the pent-up here to the dam Shchekino Upa, a right tributary of the opening into the Volga Oka.
Sowetsk located in Rajon Shchekino, about 18 kilometers southeast of Rajonverwaltungszentrums.
History
From the late 1940s arose in connection with the construction of the thermal power plant Shchekino a working class neighborhood on the banks of being dammed up as cooling water reservoir for the power plant Upa. On 1 July 1950, the power plant started operation, and in 1954 the settlement was granted town rights.

Economy and infrastructure
In Sowetsk the thermal power plant is Shchekino ( Schtschokinskaja GRES ) of the regional energy company TGK -4 with an installed capacity of 400 megawatts.
In the city there are also smaller works for boiler auxiliary equipment and pipes, insulation materials, as well as a furniture and a textile factory.
Nearest station is Schitowo almost ten kilometers west of Sowetsk on the route Moscow - Tula - Kursk -Kharkiv. North of the city also leads the industry path (only freight) Shchekino Lipki - Kirejewsk - Dedilowo ( at Uslowaja ) over.
