Sovetsky, Mari El Republic
Sovetsky (Russian Советский; mari У Роҥго, U Rongo ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Mari El (Russia) with 10,664 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The place is located in the Volga region nearly 40 kilometers northeast of the Republic capital Yoshkar -Ola on the river Ronga in the river system of the left Volga tributary Small Kokschaga ( Malaya Kokschaga ).
Sovetsky is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons Sovetsky.
History
The village was founded in the 1950s in connection with the construction of a furniture factory just west of the village Fokino, which was since 1953 the administrative seat of Rajons Ronga. As the founding year of the settlement applies Sovetsky 1958; This year the Rajonverwaltung was transferred there. In 1960 also the name of Rajon Sovetsky, and in 1965 the place the status of an urban-type settlement.
The place name to Mari, U Rongo, stands for New Ronga and refers to the name of the river and the seven kilometers south village Ronga, after the Rajon founded in 1935, was originally named.
