Soviet submarine L-3

L-3 (Russian: Л -3) was the name of a Soviet submarine of Leninez - class during the Second World War.

The boat was put on the Baltic Shipyard in Leningrad on September 6, 1929 Kiel. The launch took place on July 8, 1931. November 5, 1933, L-3 submitted to the Baltic Fleet in service.

L-3 sank on April 16, 1945 German freighter Goya, which was used to transport refugees. It is estimated that died in the attack about 7,000 people, including probably the vast majority children, women and the elderly, in which only three degrees cold Baltic Sea to death. The submarine was waiting for the Goya and fired two torpedoes at the refugee ship.

The commander of L -3, the Soviet captain Vladimir Konstantinovich Konovalov, was awarded Hero of the Soviet Union for the sinking of the award.

On August 17, 1953, L-3 decommissioned. The tower of the boat is issued as a monument in Moscow.
