Soviet Union national basketball team

The national basketball team represented the USSR 1947-1990 the USSR in international competitions and friendly matches. With 14 titles at the European Championships, the team is still the most successful team in Europe.

Successor teams of the former Soviet Union

Under the name of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS ) occurred in 1992 to a team at the Summer Olympic Games in 1992 in Barcelona, Spain, finishing in fourth place.

Thereafter own basketball associations were founded in most former Soviet republics who participated with varying degrees of success at European, World Championships and Olympic Games. The most successful follow-up teams are:

  • Russia: European Champion 2007 European Championship Silver 1993 European Championship bronze in 1997, 2011; World Championship silver in 1994, 1998; Olympic bronze medal in 2012
  • Lithuania: European Champion 2003 European Championship silver in 1995, bronze EM- 2007; Olympic bronze 1996, 2000
