Soyaux

Soyaux is a municipality with 9538 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Charente region of France in the Poitou -Charentes.

Location

Soyaux is located in the old cultural landscape of the Angoumois at an altitude of about 130 meters above sea level. inst and about three kilometers ( route ) east of the city of Angoulême.

Demographics

In the 19th century, the population increased steadily from about 500 in 1800 to about 1,500 inhabitants in 1900. Due to the proximity to the city Angoulême and comparatively cheaper property prices, the population of the municipality is temporarily increased in the 20th century to over 12,000 residents.

Economy

While until the 19th century, agriculture and viticulture played the dominant roles, today large parts of the former arable land are cultivated. Two industrial parks ( zones d' Activités ) were reported in which several businesses located - have settled - including a rotary printing press and an establishment for the manufacture of plastic packaging.
