SPA Truck Company

The SPA Truck Company (SPA) was a manufacturer of trucks, which by the Studebaker Corporation and its 100 % owned subsidiary, Pierce -Arrow in Buffalo (New York ) was operated. The name derives from Studebaker, Pierce and Arrow. The company produced truck from 1929 until 1933.

Studebaker acquired his fortune by building the Conestoga coaches, but they started in late 1929, with the construction of trucks. The factories of Studebaker were at that time already operated close to capacity limits, and so the management wanted to use the previously unused excess capacity of Pierce -Arrow for the production of load announcements.

Studebaker wanted to buy in 1932 also the White Motor Company, a well-known manufacturer of heavy trucks in Cleveland ( Ohio). White who agreed in March 1933 not in the business and sold Studebaker Pierce -Arrow to an investor group that later became bankrupt and the company disbanded in 1938.

When Studebaker in March 1933 had to file comparison, SPA was liquidated and Studebaker focused on future car production; truck production played only a subordinate role.
