Space station Unity (AKA Space Iceland One) was a German - British science fiction television series from the year 1998. 1997 and 1998 for two seasons, the first 14 episodes were filmed (with Episode 14 Edge of Night was never aired ) and the second with 13 episodes with a length of 45 minutes. The shooting took place on the Isle of Man.

The first major while commercial space station Space Iceland One ( in the German version of Unity ) Unity of the company (only mentioned in the German version of the Company) orbits around the year 2015, the Earth at an altitude of about 600 kilometers. By rotation prevails in some sectors of the station simulated gravity, there are laboratories and a botanical garden. Main purpose of the station is to conduct scientific experiments - but from a commercial point (ie the experiments are later developed from technology or products are unprofitable ).
Main content of the episodes is the cooperation of the residents, their conflicts ( through the long-term living together in a confined space ) and problems (eg, is one of the inhabitants pregnant and hiding it, otherwise they would have to immediately return to Earth ). However, there are also dangers from the outside (eg plastic- eating bacteria, which can get rock samples from Mars to the station ), technical problems and conflicts because of the commercial orientation of some experiments and the demolition is not enough profit promising experiments. Classic science fiction, however, is to find as well as Technobabble in the series hardly. This is due primarily to the low budget production, but seen by many as a great contrast to the major SF series.
