Space (TV channel)

Space is a Canadian television station of mystery, fantasy, science fiction movies and TV shows as well as action and horror movies radiates. The transmitter has its head office in Toronto, Ontario and is part of Bell Media.

History

The station received its broadcast license in 1996 by the Canadian Radio - Television and Telecommunications Commission ( CRTC ). The official start of the first transmission initiated the operator CHUM Limited on 17 October 1997 by 18 clock in the evening with the film Forbidden Planet, followed by commentary on the film by author Robert J. Sawyer. Subsequently, the film Mars Attacks was! sent.

Chum Limited began with the start of transmission of Teletoon, MuchMusic and Space to compete with the U.S. television networks and can prevent excessive U.S. import, especially to SyFy. However, some TV shows are originally from SyFy, but were sent with some delay in Space. Such as the popular U.S. series The Invisible Man. On the other hand, many Canadian series are mainly aired as the first in Canada. Only after complete charisma they are released to other channels such as the popular Canadian series Relic Hunter.

CTVglobmedia took over the station on June 22, 2007, when she took over the broadcast chain CHUM Limited. On 1 April 2011 Bell Canada acquired the stations from CTVglobemedia along with MuchMusic.

Space HD

On 6 July 2011, the station began broadcasting in HD with the parallel format. This is fed into the grid by Bell TV and Bell Fibe TV.
