Spaghettification

Spaghettisierung as the process of the deformation of objects is figuratively referred to that occurs when the object comes into sufficient proximity for a black hole. Black holes are as massive that they pose gravitational objects not only captures: As the attraction increases with decreasing distance, acting on the the black hole side facing the object stronger forces than on the opposite side. This causes the object is dragged out and torn apart. This effect increases as the object comes closer to the black hole. The term is due to the form of spaghetti. It was coined by Stephen Hawking.

Currently ( April 2014 ) this process is observed at a gas cloud that is attracted and torn apart by the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A *.
