Spalding County, Georgia

The Spalding County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Griffin, named after General L. Griffin, the first president of the Monroe Railroad.

Geography

The County is located in the central northwestern Georgia, and to the west about 90 miles from Alabama and has an area of 517 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Henry County, Butts County, Lamar County, Pike County, Meriwether County, Coweta County, Fayette County and Clayton County.

History

Spalding County was formed on December 20, 1851 96 County of Georgia from parts of Fayette County, Henry County and Pike County.
