Spanish Basketball Federation

The Federación Española de Baloncesto FEB ( ) is the national governing body for basketball in Spain. The association organizes the men's competitions for club teams of the LEB Oro ( the second division) downward to the League EBA (fourth division) as well as the two highest competitions for women, the league Femenina and the league Femenina 2 Moreover, FEB for the activities the national team of men and women in charge.

History

The Spanish Basketball Federation was established on July 31, 1923 in Barcelona under the name Federación Española de Basquet ball, was the first president Fidel Bricall. In the 1930s, there were at times two associations, FEB, based in Barcelona, ​​and the Confederación Española de Basketball based in Madrid. The first national championship was held in the Cup mode 1933. In 1934, the Federación Española de Baloncesto joined the World Federation FIBA and shortly afterwards there was an agreement between the competing federations. In 1935, Gonzalo Aguirre took over the presidency FEB and moved the seat in the capital Madrid. In 1957, the first championship was held in League mode under the auspices FEB under the name Liga Española de Baloncesto. From the 1983/84 season, however, the independent league Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto (ACB) took over the organization and marketing of the highest Spanish basketball division, which has since borne the name of the ACB league, and also those of the Copa del Rey. Since then, the FEB is only responsible for the national competitions below the first division and above the regional leagues, as well as for the activities of the Spanish national teams at club level.
