Spanish walk

The Spanish Walk ( Spanish " paso español " ) is an exercise of classical riding, in which the horse's expression of his step increases by the arc of the Vorderhufs is performed particularly high and striding through the air. The result is a certain delay by this graceful movement. Horse show this movement as a natural part of their Imponier and Übermutverhaltens.

The Spanish Walk is one of the art gaits ( ornate decorations of the natural gaits ). He is the ornament of pace step represents the other art gaits are piaffe and passage à as compensating the trot and Terre Terre, Mezair and Courbette as compensating the gallop.

The Spanish Step has a long tradition, but is relatively late (1770 ) literature knowledgeable.

In the rules of the FEI the Spanish step has been left out, the reasons may have not changed since Spohr (1903 ): The Spanish Step " is usually derogatory judged by the academic representatives of the High School, Mr stable masters ... And but he has, if it is run properly, his merits and good consequences. He should be a model step by step the horse in the same way as it is the step of the soldier against the nonchalant step of civilians. "(Peter Spohr: The logic of Equestrian Art, 1903)

Many modern interpreters of the historical horsemanship such as Bent Branderup, Richard Hinrichs and Philippe Karl agree with the description of the Riding School Biickeburg that a well executed Spanish Walk promotes the forehand rear hand coordination, resolves blockades in the shoulder blade rotation and is conducive to the development of the passage.

As errors are described:

  • Compete with outstretched foreleg
  • Too long holding up the foreleg
  • Pawing with the front leg
  • Towing consequences of the hind leg
  • Inadequate anticipation of the hind leg
  • Side cabinets of the hind leg
  • Uncontrollable " Of Paddling "

As a preliminary exercise recommends, among other Richard Hinrichs the "Polka ": that one requires stretching at every third step of the front legs, so that the horse between two stretched front leg steps always going two steps at a normal pace. Only ... when the horse performs the polka at the hand alone on the tuning guide in conjunction with light suits on the lead rein liquid, ... should be started with her under saddle.

The lifting of the forehand while standing as the Spanish walk is also called Spanish greeting (Spanish for " saludo ").

Not to be confused is the Spanish step with the Spanish step, which is the name given to the passage in the Spanish Riding School (Vienna).
