Spartera
Spartera (Greek Σπαρτερά ) is a village settlement in the south east of the Greek island of Corfu. The settlement is part of the village Neohori ( Νεοχώρι ) that the district LEFKIMMI ( Δήμος Λευκιμμαίων ) is one of the greater community of Corfu. Spartera counted 2011 101 inhabitants.
History
The locally occurring after the Busch plant Sparto ( Pfriemenginster, spartium Junceum ) named village Spartera there since at least 1507. In 1537, the village was completely destroyed by the pirate Khair ad-Din Barbarossa, but later resettled.
