Spas-Klepiki

Spas- Klepiki (Russian Спас - Клепики ) is a town in Ryazan Oblast (Russia) with 5916 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the central part of the Meschtschoraniederung about 70 km northeast of Oblasthauptstadt Ryazan at the Pra, a left tributary of the opening into the Volga Oka.

Spas- Klepiki is the administrative center of the Rajons Klepiki.

History

The place is known since the 16th century under the name Klepiki. After the establishment of a church whose name was Spasskaya ( Savior of Russian spas for ) to the place over which it has now done as Spasskoye, also Klepiki.

In the second half of the 17th century, the village became a trading center with cloth manufactory on the lively Kassimower tract, the road from Moscow to Kasimov. Until the mid- 19th century, the manufacture of cotton wool and tow wastes from linen and cotton mills of Moscow and Vladimir provinces into a major industry took shape in the surrounding villages.

In 1920 the city charter was granted under the present name, which combines the previous designations.

Culture and sights

In the city there is a Esenin Museum and a museum of woodcarving.

The city is located in the middle of 1992 on the protection and the proper use of Meschtschora formed National Parks Meschtschorski. Here is the management of the 103 014 hectare park.

Economy and infrastructure

In Spas- Klepiki there are companies in the textile and shoe industry.

Through the city's regional road leads R105 ( Moscow ) Ljuberzy - Kasimov, from which branches off the R123 here to Ryazan.

Spas- Klepiki was opened in 1899 on the narrow gauge railway ( track width 750 mm) Ryazan Tuma, which was finally closed down in 1972 and 1999 sections.
