SPD North Rhine-Westphalia

The SPD North Rhine -Westphalia (often: NRWSPD ) forms, with 125,000 members, the largest regional association of the SPD. Chairman is Hannelore Kraft, the Office of the Secretary General André has Stinka held. In parliament with 99 deputies, the SPD represents the largest fraction. Since 14 July 2010, it is the Prime Minister again.

History

In addition to the four district organizations, the national association was founded at the first National Congress in 1970 in Dortmund.

The party turned partly into coalitions with the FDP or the Greens, some in one-party government, the state government of North Rhine -Westphalia. During this time the SPD presented the Prime Minister:

Structure

The State party is organized in the district associations that call themselves Regions:

  • Western Westphalia region ( administrative districts of Münster and Arnsberg )
  • Lower Rhine region ( Regierungsbezirk Dusseldorf )
  • Middle Rhine region ( Regierungsbezirk Köln)
  • Region of East Westphalia -Lippe ( Detmold )

Below the districts consist 54 sub-districts ( district associations and city associations) and some 1,400 local associations.

Election results

Local elections

After the Second World War, the local election results of the NRW SPD increased from 33.4 % (1946 ) to up to 46.6 % ( 1964). Since 1964, they drop to their deepest result so far in 2004 with 31.7 %. In the municipal election on 30 August 2009, the party was a vote share of 29.4 % for the first time under the 30 percent mark.
