Speakon connector

Speakon ( spelling Developer: speakON ) is designed and manufactured by the company Lichtenstein Neutrik loudspeaker connector, which has established itself in the professional sound engineer as a de facto standard.

Available are Speakon connectors as a two-pole, four-pole and eight-pole version, the two-pin plug will fit into the four-pin connector, where it uses the first pair of contacts. The eight-pin version is larger than the other two. The number of available contacts in one connector makes it possible to provide multi-channel passive systems, satellite - subwoofer systems or multi -monitor loudspeaker constellations through a single connector.

Speakon connectors are characterized in comparison to the previously used for such compounds XLR or phone plugs with larger contact areas (smaller contact resistance, higher capacity) and shock protection (important for amplifiers with power ratings in kW range ) from. In addition, a confusion of ( XLR ) microphone cables, and ( Speakon ) Speaker cables is excluded. However Speakon cable can be strung together with an additional connector piece, as they have two of the same ends; XLR cables can be put together easily.

Since Neutrik Speakon has protected the name, dive considerably cheaper imitations or parallel developments usually under the name "PA- connector" or just "Speaker Connectors " on.

Developed to power PowerCon connector looks similar to Speakon, but is designed in blue and gray color. In addition, a mix-up by the arrangement of the guide slots mechanically excluded (right angle at PowerCon, diametrically opposite in Speakon ).
