History

For a new generation multi-purpose support vessels, the U.S. Department of Defense announced a development and construction contract to Austal won. In this project, comprehensive 1.6 billion U.S. dollars developing and building the Austal -class ship, with the option of nine more units by the year 2013.

The JHSV ships are to be suitable for the combined use of troops movement, transport equipment, humanitarian aid, and for operations in waters with low depth. Thus, the type of ship can be used by both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. The JHSV ships are thus a strategic addition to the LCS ships.

The 103 m long JHSV is based on the civilian fast ferry catamarans from Austal.

Equipment

The structural proximity to the civilian fast ferry the LHSV offers several advantageous features. So standing on the upper deck, a flight deck and a parking bay for naval helicopter available.
