Geographical Location

Spechbach lies on the border between small Odenwald and Kraichgau, 21 kilometers southeast of Heidelberg, between Heidelberg, Sinsheim and Mosbach. The district of Spechbach comprises essentially the same Spechbachtal as well as the mutually adjoining ridge and lies at an altitude of about 160 to 330 meters.

The municipality is bordered to the east by Epfenbach, on the southeast by Neidenstein, to the south Eschelbronn, on the southwest by Mecke home and in the west and north by Lobbach. The municipality is a member municipality in Gemeindeverwaltungsverband Elsenztal whose seat holds the community Meckenheim.

History

Coat of arms

The blazon of the arms is: Sitting in silver on a blue wave bar a black woodpecker, about two diagonally crossed red lilies rods.

The coat of arms dates back to a court seal from 1705. It was designed in 1921 by the General State Archives in Karlsruhe. The woodpecker symbolizes " naturally" the place name. The lilies rods originate from the coat of arms of the lords of Venningen who had since 1401 shares in the local rule.

The flag is blue and white and was awarded in 1981 by the District Office Rhein- Neckar-Kreis.

Citizens Energy Village

Since February 16, 2012 the community is a federal pilot municipality in the federal pilot project for the development of an integrated neighborhood concept. The center of Spechbach is influenced by the neighboring Protestant and Catholic churches. Economy
