Speech Magic is the brand name of a voice recognition technology from Nuance Communications, Inc. It is a Software Development Kit ( SDK), which providers of information systems enables the integration of speech recognition. Speech Magic is not sold as a standalone solution or product, but only through integration into third party systems. The technology was originally developed by Philips Speech Recognition Systems, headquartered in Vienna, Austria; the company was sold to Nuance in October 2008.

Speech Magic is primarily used for information gathering in healthcare. Doctors can use it to dictate directly into content areas of a hospital information system or electronic medical record and this navigate by voice commands. Mainly Speech Magic but is used to generate medical evidence and medical reports.

Speech Magic offers two options for converting speech to text: The front-end or online speech recognition shows - with a minimum time lag - the recognized text directly on the author's screen. In the back-end or batch speech recognition, speech is converted to text in the background, then at a later date by a typist or the author will be available to correct itself.

Speech Magic supports 25 recognition languages ​​and offers more than 150 subject-specific recognition vocabularies. Special versions are available for the legal field and for tax advice.

Philips Speech Recognition Systems, the manufacturer of Speech Magic, was acquired on October 1, 2008 by Nuance ( the maker of Dragon Naturally Speaking ).
