Spencer County (Kentucky)

Spencer County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Taylorsville, named after Richard Taylor, a mill owner. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located north of the geographic center of Kentucky, is located in the northwest wtwa 35 km away from Indiana and has an area of 497 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Shelby County, Anderson County, Nelson County, Bullitt County and Jefferson County.

History

Spencer County was formed on January 7, 1824 from parts of Bullitt County, Nelson County and Shelby County. It was named after Captain Spear Spencer, who was killed in the Battle of Tippecanoe.
