Sphere Project

The Sphere Project is an initiative to a kind of quality management of NGOs. It was founded in July 1997. Sphere project was initiated to coordinate quality improvement in international humanitarian aid globally and across organizational boundaries.

Projects

The Sphere Project is to resolve experiential problems of humanitarian work. The following projects are:

  • Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Disaster Relief
  • Guide to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in disaster relief such as water supply, sanitary arrangements, nutrition, food aid, shelter, camp management and medical services.
  • Phase I - Existing processes and procedures of the Member organizations should be collected and compared.
  • Phase II - 1999 launched the second phase, here the Sphere documents to be checked and tested to be formally adopted and so to serve as a working basis.
