Spiegelwald

The mirror Forest is a mountain in the Saxon Erzgebirge Erzgebirge District in 728 m above sea level. He is in the field of urban green grove - Beier field north of Black Mountain and east of Aue. The mirror Forest is a popular destination with particularly good views of the Ore Mountains and the Schwarzwassertal in Schwarzenberg.

History

Matthes Enderlein assumed that around 1200 lines of communication had to be secured to Bohemia. For this reason, some castles, but especially the mirror forest were (formerly called Spähwald ), built a strategic security position.

Observation tower and mountain inn

During a Erzgebirgsbesuches King Albert in 1880 laid the foundation for a first observation tower. The 17 -meter-high brick tower was inaugurated again in the presence of the monarch on September 11, 1881, was called the " King Albert Tower ". 1903 Mountain Inn was opened at the summit. The observation tower was damaged in 1945 by low-flying aircraft and had to be demolished in 1967 due to disrepair. On 17 November 1999 a new 40 meters high tower was opened.
