Spiez ( emphasis in dialect to e) is a municipality ( municipality ) in the Administrative District Frutigen- Niedersimmental of the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Spiez is situated on the southern shore of Lake Thun. The village of Spiez extends from an altitude of 558 m above sea level. M. ( above sea level) up to 852 m above sea level. M. ( Hondrichhügel ).

The municipality consists of five so-called Bäuerten: Spiez, Some, Hondrich, Faulensee and Spiezwiler (formerly Wyler ). Each of these boroughs was responsible for the cooperative use of the Bäuerten belonging commons, planting land, vineyards and woods. Each Bäuert had to provide and maintain a classroom or a school building. During the 20th century, the tasks of Bäuerten the municipality ( political community) Spiez were transferred.

In 1977, the Municipal Assembly was a parliament (Grand council ) replaced with 36 members. The left graph shows the distribution of seats in the large council after the elections of 4 November 2012.

The executive branch consists of 7 members. Franz Arnold is mayor of Spiez (2012 ).

The voting shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 26.0 %, SP 18.3 %, 16.7 % BDP, FDP 8.2 %, 8.2 % GPS, glp 7.2 %, 7.1 % EPP, EDU 3.8 %, CVP 1.4 %.

Attractions

The main attraction is the castle of Spiez with state rooms of the 13th to the 18th century. Also, the large castle park and the over 1000 -year-old early Romanesque castle church attracts many tourists.

The home and viniculture is housed in a typical Simmental house built in 1728. To visit there is the appearance of a peasant household, a full cooper's workshop, " Trüel " with grape press and an exhibition of the work in the vineyard and in the cellar.

The Hotel Belvédère in Spiez in 1954 quarters of the German national team during the World Cup. The resulting there among the players Spirit of Spiez is considered an important factor in winning the World Cup.

Spiez has one of the highest vineyards north of the Alps, where " Spiezer wine " is produced.

The culture is supplemented throughout with numerous cultural events throughout the year.
