Spin-Flip

In physics is meant by a spin- flip, the realignment (particularly the reverse ) of the spin of a particle, such as an electron.

From a spin- flip in the narrower sense, however, one speaks only when doing an energy barrier must be overcome. This is for example when a particle in a magnetic field occurs because then, as a rule the energy degeneracy of different spin states is disabled. If the magnetic field very strong, thermally excited spin flips are completely suppressed.
