Spin (novel)

Spin is the title of a novel by the Canadian science fiction author Robert Charles Wilson.

Wilson describes it as a soil, which is enclosed by an unknown cosmic power in a kind of stasis field, the spin. Because of the diverse effects that are caused by this inclusion, the Company changed the earth partially fundamentally. Approach communicates different policies for exploration or solution of the problem are presented, but the main focus is on the personal development of several persons who are employed partly for economic reasons, partly out of personal interest with the study of the spin.

These relations to the current situation of the world, which, though called and even discussed, but neither explicitly pointed out are still emphasized. For example, it pointed out the dependence of the economy and especially the food industry on oil, a fact that was not only the Roman forms unaware directly. However, such comments will be incorporated in such a comment that she did not even notice under certain circumstances.

The situation on the ground in the book has dystopian elements, but this is not highlighted. Rather, various phases are described, which runs through the society, both in small and large scale. Political developments are also described primarily situational, a rating is almost not take place, although the influence of politics also ( and especially) on the main characters, as well as society in general, is considerably higher than in comparable science fiction literature (see Neuromancer by William Gibson Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson or ). Although the situational description is quite similar in detail, such as in Neuromancer, spinning still feels not so visionary.
