Spitak

Spitak (Armenian Սպիտակ, formerly Amamth or Amamlu, Russian Спитак ) is a city in northern Armenia in the province of Lori. Here on December 7, 1988 an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 with 25,000 deaths occurred. Since the city was on two tectonic plates and the threat of earthquakes was omnipresent there, the ruined city was abandoned and rebuilt on a slightly different position. In 2009 18.885 people lived in the city. For memorial to the thousands who died in the earthquake of Spitak cemetery of the church was built there Brazen.
