Spodik

The Spodek or Spodik is a high, flat top fur hat of conical form.

Appearance

In contrast to Schtreimel is the Spodik, of which there are several variations, long, tall, slim and rather cylindrical.

Use

The Spodik was born in South Russia, Poland and Galicia from certain population groups (Jews, Cossacks ). Dating from Slavic languages ​​word is incorporated into Yiddish and is occasionally taken over from there to German translations. Married men of the Gerrer Hasidim carried him on the Sabbath and Jewish holidays, he is regarded as characteristic of the Gerrer Hasidim. This type of fur hat, however, was carried before the Shoah by all Hasidic groups in Poland.
