Ordinary bath sponge ( Spongia officinalis)

The ordinary bath sponge ( Spongia officinalis, Syn Euspongia officinalis), the most familiar type of sponges, belongs to the family Spongiidae in the order of the horn sponges and in the genus Spongia, which still comprises about 70 other species. It is found in the Mediterranean, Atlantic and Indian Oceans.

Features

The ordinary bath sponge is found in different shapes, round predominate, at depths between 0.5 and 40 meters. The coloration of the animal will vary depending on the depth of yellowish white to black, but is usually between dark gray and dark brown; the interior is white.
