Sporting B.C.

A.O. Sporting Athens (Greek Α.Ο. Σπόρτιγκ Αθηνών ) is a Greek basketball team from the Athens municipality Patisia. The men's division is currently playing in Gamma Ethniki, the fourth highest league in the country.

History

Founded in 1936 by Sporting Athens Greeks who emigrated from what is now istanbul and accommodating members of the association founded in 1924 Sporting Club Konstantin Opel were.

1939 and 1940 reached Sporting each final of the Greek Cup, but both times was beaten city rivals Panellinios. In 1945 the club won the championship game. Women

History

The women's section of Sporting is one of the most important clubs in Greece. With 21 won championships - 20 of them in the period between 1976 to 1999 - she is the most successful team by far in the country.

The first championship was Sporting win in 1976. 1977 graduated from the club in his first international match against Red Star Belgrade. The first victory in a European away game succeeded in 1983. 1991 in Barcelona and 1992 in Bari creates the club in two consecutive years, the leap into the Final Four tournament for the European Champions Cup. 1996 Sporting won the inaugural women for Greek club trophy.
