Sports equipment

Sports venue is a collective term for all buildings and facilities, which serve to exercise one or more sports. Most belong to sports facilities in addition to the facilities for sporting activities and bleachers for spectators.

The oldest sports venues date from the time of ancient Greece, such as the stadium of Olympia, Greece, where from 776 BC to 393 AD, held every four years, the Games of Antiquity.

The most famous sports venues of the Roman Empire are the Circus Maximus in Rome, where chariot races and gladiator battles were fought, and the Colosseum in Rome where gladiators also competed against each other.

Today there are a wide variety of sports facilities, the spectrum ranges from simple gyms, over swimming pools ( outdoor and indoor), ice rinks and sports fields to giant football stadiums and event halls that can provide space for over 100,000 spectators.

Many of the larger sporting venues are now used not only for sporting events, but often also for concerts, fairs and the like.
