SPOT Satellite Messenger

SPOT is a commercial satellite-based communications system, simple records, and position data are transmitted via communication satellites with. The system is offered by the U.S. company SPOT Cooperation from Virginia. It is a subsidiary of the satellite operator Globalstar.

Performance

The satellite transceiver SPOT Connect is connected via Bluetooth to a smartphone with Android operating system ( Android 2.0 apps ). The system then transmits via satellite SMS, GPS coordinates, Twitter and Facebook data, as well as e -mails. By means of an emergency button, an emergency calls with location information: SPOT Connect then sends an emergency signal to the GPS coordinates to the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center ( IERCC ), which in turn alerts the appropriate agencies worldwide.

With the function " Check-In" a message with GPS coordinates can be sent. The " tracking " feature makes it possible contacts to follow the itinerary of the user on Google Maps.

Technology and coverage
