Springbok Radio

Springbok Radio was a South African radio station that existed from 1950 to 1985.

History

Springbok Radio was the first private radio station in South Africa on 1 May 1950 to shipment. The program was broadcast in English and Afrikaans. The target group was the white population of South Africa. With the broadcast of the first national television program on January 6, 1976, and the 1978 television advertising broadcast the demise of Springbok Radio began. Due to the advent of commercial television, the radio station lost even more important. Finally, the transmission mode at 31 December 1985 has been set.

The Springbok Radio Preservation Society of South Africa ( Afrikaans: Suid -Afrika Springbokradio Bewaringsvereniging van ) is archived, a non-profit, sound recordings, photographs and other material of the transmitter. It is based in Johannesburg. The archive houses many original recordings on cassette and tape. Currently, digitized by the company many analog recordings. Since 1 July 2008, it operates in collaboration with the South African Broadcasting Corporation Internet Radio Service of Springbok Radio. This can be received many older programs again.
