SPYDER

The SPYDER system (short for surface- to-air Python and Derby) is a short-range air defense missile system, which the Israeli defense company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd.. ( Rafael ) was developed with the participation of Israel Aerospace Industries ( IAI). The system follows a general trend towards using powerful air / air missiles as well as ground / air missiles. The system was first introduced at Le Bourget Paris Air Show 2005.

Description SPYDER -SR

The " SPYDER short-range air defense missile system " ( SPYDER -SR ) was developed to combat aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles and precision-guided munitions in the lower airspace. The system is designed to protect both fixed facilities as well as troops in battle field against threats from the air. The system is characterized by a rapid response time and is capable of a large number of targets by day and night and all weather conditions simultaneously at distances of 1 km to 15 km and at altitudes from 20 m to 9,000 m in a 360 ° sector to fight.

System components

The mobile command and control unit was developed by IAI. Housed she is in a leave ended on Tatra truck container, which is equipped with a mast - mounted Elta EL/M-2106 ATAR and a friend / foe recognition system and VHF / UHF radios. The Elta EL/M-2106 ATAR 3D radar can track up to 500 targets in a 360 ° sector and is protected from the effects of electronic warfare.

The mobile launch pad consists of a plate mounted on a Tatra truck, electro-mechanical 360 ° rotating launcher for up to four missiles. Loaded can be any combination of Python 5 or Derby missiles. The vehicle is equipped with a TOPLITE said opto- electronic multi- sensor which has a FLIR, a CCD camera, a laser rangefinder and an auto tracking feature.

The replenishment vehicle is also a Tatra truck, which is equipped with a loading crane and provides the mobile launch ramps with new ammunition.

Python 5

The Python 5 is a highly agile, infrared- guided Kurzstrecken-Luft/Luft-Rakete, which is produced by the Israeli defense company Rafael. Equipped is the rocket with an image representing the wide-angle dual-band infrared seeker head that can pivot up to 100 ° from the rocket axis to seek goals and to pursue. The high maneuverability of the missile is achieved by a total of 18 control surfaces. The ignition of the high explosive warhead Splitter is done by an active laser proximity fuse. The Python 5 is to search through their sophisticated electronics in a position, even after the launch goals and capture ( LOAL / lock -on after launch ). In LOAL mode, the command and control unit transmits the target data via the mobile launch pad for this rocket in flight.

Derby

The Derby is an active radar guided Mittelstrecken-Luft/Luft-Rakete, can be combated with which mainly targets out of sight. With a goal fighting at close range the target lock occurs before the rocket launch ( Lobl / lock -on before launch ). Objectives at mid-range combat in LOAL mode. The missiles of Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system based on this missile.

SPYDER -MR

Rafael has announced the development of a medium-range version of the SPYDER air defense missile system. With this, the engagement of targets at ranges to 35 km and at altitudes of 16,000 m be possible. The increase of the range will be achieved with a rocket booster motor for the Python 5 and Derby. SPYDER -MR will be equipped with eight missiles per mobile launch pad and a new Elta MF -STAR radar.
