Srbovo

Srbovo (Cyrillic: Србово ) is a place in the Opština Negotin in the district of Bor in Serbia. The population is predominantly Serbian.

Geography

Srbovo situated at an altitude of 48 meters above sea level in the Danube Basin in the triangle of Serbia - Romania - Bulgaria. The region around Srbovo borders the Romanian region of Oltenia. From Negotin from the small community is located in the northeast. The Danube is a few kilometers to the north and east. Main source of income in the village is agriculture.

History

Srbovo existed before the invasion of the Turks in Serbia under the name Podgorin. According to the administrative division of the conquered territory within the Ottoman Empire, Vlachs migrated into the area and the town was henceforth referred to as Srbovlah. Beginning of the 16th century had Srbovlah 40 to 50 household farms. 1899, sat ultimately by the name Srbovo. The Chapel ( Hram Vaznesenja Gospodnjeg ) in Srbovo was completed in 1837 and consecrated by the then Eparch Dositej Negotinski.
