Srednekolymsky District

The Srednekolymski ulus (Russian Среднеколымский улус, also Среднеколымский район, rajon Srednekolymski; Yakut Орто Халыма улууһа, Orto Chalyma uluuha ) is one of the 34 Ulusse ( Rajons ) of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia ) in the north of the Russian Far East Federal District. It lies north of the Arctic Circle in the north- east of the country inland, south of the Nischnekolymski ulus and north of Werchnekolymski ulus. To the east it borders the Chukchi Autonomous District of the Magadan Oblast and the. The name of the Ulus and its administrative center Srednekolymsk refer to the location on the middle reaches of the Kolyma River (Russian Srednjaja Kolyma ).

Geography

The Ulus has an area of about 125,200 km ², more than a third the size of Germany. To the west of the Ulus is the headwaters of the Alaseja, the east is drained by the Kolyma.
