Sredneuralsk

Sredneuralsk (Russian Среднеуральск ) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast (Russia) with 20 449 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located on the eastern edge of the Middle Urals, about 25 km north of Yekaterinburg Oblasthauptstadt on the eastern shore of Lake Issetskoje, the Iset entfließt in the river system of the Ob.

Sredneuralsk forms since the administrative reform in 2006 an independent city circle; previously it was five kilometers east of town Verkhnyaya Pyshma subordinated administratively.

History

Sredneuralsk arose in 1931 in connection with the construction of the thermal power plant Sredneuralskaja GRES ( Middle Urals thermal power plant), and received city rights in 1966.

Culture and sights

Near the town there are interesting rock formations, such as Tschortowo Gorodischtsche ( Devil's Town ) and Sem bratjew ( Seven Brothers ).

Economy

In addition to the city forming thermal power plant, which now belongs to the utility company OGK -5, there are companies in the construction industry ( metal and reinforced concrete structures) and the food industry.
