Sri Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore district

Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore ( Telugu: శ్రీ అమరజీవి పొట్టి శ్రీరాములు నెల్లూరు జిల్లా ) is one of 23 districts in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The administrative center is the city of Nellore.

Geography

The district is located in the southeastern part of Andhra Pradesh. It is bordered to the west by the district YSR, on the north by Prakasam District, on the east by the Bay of Bengal and to the south by the district Chittoor and the state of Tamil Nadu. The coastline is 169 km.

The district has an area of ​​13,076 km ², making it one by area is medium-sized districts in Andhra Pradesh (4.8 % of the area of Andhra Pradesh ). 2519 km ² ( 19.3 percent ) of the area is forested. History

The district belonged to 1 October 1953 to the Madras State. Thereafter, until 1956 Andhra State. Since then, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore is an administrative unit in the then newly created state of Andhra Pradesh. The district was renamed in 2008. Up to this time he had the same name as the main town, Nellore.
