Srikakulam district

Srikakulam, formerly Chica Cole ( Telugu: శ్రీకాకుళం జిల్లా ) is one of 23 districts in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The administrative center is the city of Srikakulam.

Geography

The district is located in the northeast of Andhra Pradesh. He is surrounded by the Bay of Bengal to the west by the district Vizianagaram, on the north by the state of Odisha and the East.. The coastline is 193 km.

The district has an area of ​​5837 km ² and is the second smallest in terms of area district in Andhra Pradesh (2.1 % of the area of Andhra Pradesh ). 686 km ² ( 11.8 percent) of the area is forested. History

The district was created in 1950 from parts of the former district of Visakhapatnam. 1969 smaller areas were reclassified in the former parent district. Srikakulam is in its current boundaries since 1 June 1979. At that time the district of Vizianagaram from parts of the former districts of Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam was established.
