There is moderate continental climate. The town lies on Begejski channel, a waterway that connects the Serbian town of Zrenjanin with the Romanian city of Timisoara. After he was first closed in 1967, the channel has been expanded and is since 2011 again navigable. Immediately adjacent to the town of Novi Srpski Itebej Itebej ( Neuitebe, Hungarian: Ittebe ).

History

Srpski Itebej was settled in the 18th century at the impetus of the Empress Maria Theresa, after the area of the entire Vojvodina was generally deserted by the Ottoman invasions over several centuries. The earlier settlement, on which the present is justified, was mentioned in 1221 for the first time. The 800-year old document is preserved in the National Archives of Hungary in Budapest. The name Itebej probably goes back to the feudal lords of the city Ittebői István.

The Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Sava and Simeon in the village was built from 1765 to 1769.
