Sırrı Süreyya Önder

Sırrı Süreyya Önder (* July 7, 1962 in Adiyaman ) is a Turkish director, actor, journalist and member of the Turkish Parliament.

Life

Önder was the eldest child of a family in Adiyaman to the world. His father was a co-founder and Chairman of Türkiye Partisi ISCI in Adiyaman, but died when Önder was still a child. Therefore, this took odd jobs to support his family. Later he was admitted to study at the Political Science Department (tr. Mülkiye ) Ankara University. After the military coup in 1980, Önder was among the students who were against the military junta. Because of his activities, he was arrested in 1981 and sentenced to several years in prison. He was in custody in various jails seven years.

In 2006 he directed his first film called Beynelmilel ( The International ). In this melodrama, he describes the life of a group of musicians in Adiyaman after the military coup in 1980. The film won several awards nationally and internationally. Besides his work as a director, he also played some roles in various films.

Önder also worked as a columnist in various newspapers such as the Birgün and the radical. He left the radical to go into politics. For the parliamentary elections in June 2011, he stood on as an independent candidate for Istanbul and was elected. After the election, he joined the Barış ve Demokrasi Partisi (BDP ) for. Önder was one of the BDP MPs, who met on the prison island İmralı early 2013 with Abdullah Öcalan in order to support a new round of negotiations between the state and the PKK. On the 2013 Newroz in Diyarbakir Önder read a letter Ocalan, was in the proclaimed inter alia, that the PKK fighters will withdraw from Turkey.

Önder participated as one of the first politicians in the protests in Turkey in 2013 and was slightly injured admitted to a hospital because he was hit by a Trängengasgranate in the back. But he was soon released.

For the upcoming local elections in March 2014, the BDP deputies Önder, Sebahat Tuncel and Ertuğrul Kürkçü decided to end October 2013 escape from the party and the Halkların Demokratik Partisi (HDP; Democratic Party of the Peoples) anzuschliesen.
