SS Adriatic (1871)

The Adriatic was a ship of the White Star Line.

The Adriatic was on 17 October 1871 in Belfast from the stack. It was built in the Harland and Wolff shipyard.

On April 11, 1872, it completed its maiden voyage from Liverpool via Queenstown to New York. In May 1872 she won the Blue Riband with a speed of 14.53 knots.

In December 1897, the Adriatic was decommissioned and scrapped in 1899 in Preston.

Collisions

The Adriatic was involved in several collisions. The most serious occurred in December 1875 off the Irish coast. The Adriatic collided with the sailing ship Harvest Queen of the Black Ball Line, which sank soon after the accident. In this case, all 30 people on board were killed.
