SS Albertic

The Albertic was a passenger ship of the White Star Line. The ship was originally commissioned by the North German Lloyd (NDL ) and Munich for the service Mediterranean - New York in order, but came only as reparation under the British flag as Ohio and later Albertic into service.

Architectural History

1914 was carried out at the AG Weser in Bremen, the keel laying of a second ship of NDL named Munich, which was intended for the Mediterranean - New York service and its further construction was halted during the war. 1919 was included in the reparations and sold shortly after the launch in 1920 of the Royal Mail Line and renamed after delivery on 27 March 1923 in Ohio.

Line service

On April 3, 1923, Ohio began her maiden voyage from Hamburg to New York via Southampton and Cherbourg. At this time the Royal Mail still drove regularly also of Hamburg. However, the departures of the year were less and 1926 adjusted fully to year. By 1926, the ministry of the Ohio between Southampton - Cherbourg and New York has continued. On October 15, 1926, she started her last round trip from Southampton via Cherbourg to New York.

1926 was the Ohio, which was acquired by the Royal Mail White Star Line, was renamed Albertic and on April 22, 1927 for the first time between Liverpool and Canada used ( to Quebec and Montreal). In 1928 she launched from London to Canada and in 1929 it replaced the crashed Celtic ( II) in the Liverpool - New York service via Boston from February 2. On 9 May 1930, the Albertic returned to the Canada service. It is questionable whether it was operated after a commenced in Liverpool on August 29, 1930 round trip to Quebec City and Montreal.

She seems to have been launched after their return to Liverpool in September on the Clyde. The Albertic was one of ten ships of the White Star Line, which was transferred in 1934 to Cunard White Star, but it was not used by the new company, but canceled the end of the year in Japan.
